Meet your SHIMMY SOUL Instructor: Amae

Amae

Amae's love for Bellydance began the early 2000's through American Tribal Style with Megha Gavin, but eventually discovering her true love and passion for Oriental style shortly after studying Betty Karam. She began to immerse herself taking classes and workshops with top dancers whenever she could including Sahra Saeeda, Amaya, Artemis, Amel Tafsout, and Hadia- receiving her Teacher Training Level 1 certification. Her studies brought her to also study Classical Indian dance with Sunanda Nair's Performing Arts (New Orleans) for 4 years and Classical Persian dance with GeetiShirazi Mahajan (Austin), also performing with Ravaan Persian Dance Company .

Amae is excited to coming back to teach in her home town. Amae started her dance career in New Orleans from 2000- 2008 dancing at Byblos, Jamila's Cafe, and Attiki Hookah Cafe. She was the co-founder and co-owner of Crescent Lotus in New Orleans till 2010. She resides in Austin, Texas and has continued performing and teaching. This marks her 17th year celebrating and sharing this beautiful art form.

WORKSHOP:
"THE ART OF BALANCING- CANDLE TRAY DANCE & FOOTWORK"

  • “The Tricks of the Tray" We will take time to learn about different styles of tray, the best way to prep your prop, materials, and safety.
  • “The Balancing Act” We will focus on technique, posture, and the best way to isolate your upper body for your prop.  From there, we will take basic belly dance moves and learn how to incorporate levels and layers. This really adds to the depth of your performance while using balancing props .
  • “Floor work Technique” We will then focus on descending (the proper way to get to the floor) and variations, as well ascending from the floor. We will then learn floor work movements and combinations best for balancing props.

What you will need to bring:
  • If you have sensitive knees, I would suggest bringing knees pads and or a yoga mat.
  • If you don't have a tray, I will be able to supply small prop trays.
