What to Expect: Belly Dance Boot Camp
Wondering what to expect in our New Year Belly Dance Boot Camp classes?
If you're like me, I like to be prepared (at least mentally) for what's coming so I can feel more confident with my participation. I thought I would share for those of you who are like me :)
Here's a brief description of what you can expect this boot camp

Here's a brief description of what you can expect this boot camp
- Check in: I recommend arriving 5 minutes before class to check in
- Arrive (2 minutes): We start class with a brief moment to pause from the day and "arrive" in the space, as well as set an intention for class.
- Warm Up/Conditioning (10 minutes): For our belly dance boot camp, we expand our warm up to include a more intense core workout. We will invite movement into our body, increase circulation and flexibility through stretching exercises, tone and condition incorporating elements of yoga and pilates as well as dance strengthening exercises (Thursdays we will focus on abdominals, lower back muscles, pelvic floor, inner and outer thighs. Saturdays we will focus on hips, glutes, hamstrings, calves, and abdominals)
- Technique (15 minutes): Belly Dance Technique (breakdowns and drills) comes next. Names and isolations for these moves are broken down and explained. Proper technique, posture, full body position is taught.
- Drills (10 minutes): We incorporate belly dance technique and combo drills to assist in building muscle memory, improve coordination, and to raise our heart rate to cardio.
- Choreography Sequence (10 minutes): Using the technique and movements we learned in class, we will put combinations together to create short sequences (introducing different styles of belly dance- Oriental, Baladi, Saiidi, Khaliji, Tribal Fusion, etc.) This is where individual movements become a dance. This is where you begin to see "belly dance" through your own expression and movements.
- Shimmy (2 minutes): Our shimmy goal is to hold a comfortable, powerful shimmy for at least 2 minutes. We will teach this, drill this, practice this, and close each class with this!
- Cool Down (5 minutes): Incorporating visualization, meditation, and mantra... we close our class with a restorative cool down.
What to wear?
Stretch pants and a fitted shirt or tank. Something that allows a full range of motion. We do class barefoot. Bring your own coin scarf or borrow one from us!
Bring Water. Bring a Yoga Mat if you have one!
