FAQ: Intensives

FAQ: Choreography Intensive (September/October) and Performance Intensive (November)

Can I sign up for the Choreography and Performance intensives if I am not currently in the 6 week intensive? Short answer is yes. I recommend joining Tuesday and/or Thursday classes starting in September.

Do I have to perform to take the intensives?
No. Performing in the November 13th show is optional. Both of these intensives will help prepare students who would like to perform. However, these intensives are designed for ALL STUDENTS. Both intensives will be taught as classes/workshops and not as practice for a performance.

What will we learn?
In the Choreography intensive you will:
- learn combinations and routines
- create choreography
- learn to improvise
- learn to connect with a group of dancers as part of the routine
- learn how to emote in dance
- continue to work on technique and focus on isolation and layering to make your dancing more dynamic
At the end of the 4 weeks you will be able to dance a piece as a group including group and solo parts, choreographed parts, as well improvised parts.

In the Performance Intensive you will:
- learn to belly dance :)
- learn to dance and perform to middle eastern music with integrity and respect
- learn mechanical and technical tools to create different emotions
- learn about connecting with yourself during performance so you can have an authentic connection with the audience
- learn about gaze, arm positions, transitions, and weight shifts that engage an audience
- you will work on transforming the piece we work on in the 4 week intensive into a PERFORMANCE piece.

Can you sign up for the Performance Intensive without signing up for the Choreograohy Intensive? No. You will need to know the concepts, combinations, etc. From the 4 week Choreography Intensive in order to benefit from the Performance Intensive.

Both of these will challenge you as a dancer- physically, emotionally, technically, mentally... I cannot wait to teach these two sessions. I hope you will join us
