Additional details about Gay Pride Parade New Orleans, below.
Please read in its entirety:

New Orleans Pride fully embraces the message of “One CommUNITY” as we celebrate our history and promote the future prosperity of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast Region. We use public awareness and education about the LGBT+ community as a way to combat “phobias” and discrimination. Our programs, seminars and events leading up to, and during Pride weekend, are meant to include individuals from all walks of life.
New Orleans Pride raises money for two reasons. Funds are raised for our chapter of “Stand For The Silent” to focus on ending bullying. Secondly, funds are raised to put on the New Orleans Pride Festival for the LGBT+ Community of New Orleans and its allies.

Our Mission

New Orleans Pride's objectives are to create an atmosphere where lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people can be proud of their sexual orientation and gender identity.

Our Values
Inclusivity

New Orleans Pride welcomes everyone and wants everyone to feel included. We strive to create a sense of belonging and shared purpose.

Diversity

New Orleans Pride celebrates the uniqueness of all individuals while bringing people together as One CommUNITY.

Creativity
New Orleans Pride inspires our city through education, ideas and the talents of our community.

Our Vision
We aspire to create One CommUNITY, bringing together individuals from all walks of life, through our family friendly events that are welcoming to all.

History of Pride
New Orleans Gay Pride began in February 1971, when the newly formed Gay Liberation Front of New Orleans presented a "Gay In" picnic in City Park. This was the very first such event in the entire state of Louisiana.

Throughout the 1980s, several organizations spearheaded the annual events. The first street parade was held in 1980. In 1981, the event moved to Armstrong Park, and was emceed by New Orleans native Ellen DeGeneres. In 1988 “Gay Fest” was changed to “Gay Pride.”

By the 1990s, “Pridefest” was being sponsored by the New Orleans Alliance of Pride.

In 2005, Gay Pride was presented by the LGBT Community Center of New Orleans. In 2011, The LGBT Community Center decided to no longer produce the Pridefest event and gave all rights for PrideFest to the 2010 and 2011 local Grand Marshals.

In 2011, The New Orleans Pride Organization was formed as its own organization and acquired a 501(c)(3) status. The 2011 "New Orleans Gay Pride Festival" consisted only of a parade, pageant, and block party on Bourbon Street with 80’s pop star, Tiffany. In 2012, the festival officially became “New Orleans Pride.” Since then, The New Orleans Pride Board has restructured the organization to foster positive relationships between all communities in New Orleans.

The 2017 New Orleans Pride Festival was the largest Pride Festival to ever take place in Louisiana. More than 35 events took place over a three-day weekend, attracting people from all walks of life. The Festival brought in more than 82,000 participants, 3,000 of which were in the New Orleans Pride Parade, Louisiana’s Largest LGBT+ Parade.

Recognition
2014 “One of the Fastest Growing Pride Festivals in the Nation”
2015 Travel & Leisure listed New Orleans Pride #6 on their list of “Top 9 Pride Festivals to Visit This Summer”. This list included Prides from all over the world.

This will be verified on the day of the parade. Drivers and all passengers will be required to sign a liability release form. A parade fire inspection check will take place at 05:30 PM. Entrants who do not pass all inspections may be removed from the parade.

Harnesses: Each float will be supplied with harnesses. These are the property of New Orleans Pride and may not be removed from the floats after the parade. Harnesses must be worn at all times while the float is moving. New Orleans Pride Staff will do a harness check at 6:30PM. All harnesses must be secured by this point as floats will begin moving to final line up. Per the NOPD, if anyone is caught without a harness attached, the entire float will be pulled from the parade and the individual may face fines. No refunds will be given if your float is pulled from the parade. All riders must be on the float by 6:30PM.

Parade Coordinators will check each system before the parade rolls. Any microphones or megaphones will be confiscated until after the parade. Per City Guidelines, anyone caught violating this during the parade will be subject to a $300 fine and removal from the parade.
